The Pope Is Now On Twitter
Pop Benedict XVI has embraced Twitter to spread the word of god. Yes, the Pope is a man of god and a man of tech! He made his historic tweet on Tuesday, using an Apple iPad.
The Pope tweeted using the Vatican’s twitter feed, (@news_va_en). The holy handle now has almost 60,000 followers.
Here’s what he tweeted:
In May 2010, the Pope encouraged priests to embrace social media as a means to spread the word of god, “Using new communication technologies, priests can introduce people to the life of the Church and help our contemporaries to discover the face of Christ,” he said. “They will best achieve this aim if they learn, from the time of their formation, how to use these technologies in a competent and appropriate way.”
It’s amazing to see how quickly the world is adapting to social media. This new technology has enabled us to communicate instantly with millions of people, anywhere in the world. We’ve used it to assist Egyptian citizens in times of political turmoil and reunite families after the recent earthquake and Tsunami devastation in Japan. Now that the Pope has given Twitter his blessing, social media will undoubtably continue to have profane effect on the world.
