Google Introduces The Chromebook, Offers $20 Per Month Academic Pricing

Google unveiled their highly anticipated Chromebook today at their 2011 I/O conference. The Chromebook offers a unique cloud based approach to computing.

The Chromebook’s entire OS as well as all of it’s files and applications will be stored online, in the cloud. Google will process all system and application updates online, providing a seamless user experience. No need to buy any anti-virus software, it too runs on the cloud.

Both Samsung and Acer will offer wifi-only and 3G models of the Chromebook. They are set to ship on June 15th, prices will start at $349.

Google is offering special subscription pricing for government, business and educational customers. For just $28 per month, government and business institutions can “rent” a Chromebook. The rental fee includes free hardware upgrades, warranty and technical support! Students and educational organizations can rent them for just $20 a month!
