Google To Release Chrome OS Notebooks This Summer, Will Offer A $10-$20/Month Subscription Option

Remember when Google sent out all those free pilot CR-48 Chrome netbooks?  Well, it seems Google is wrapping up their beta testing and set to release their Chrome OS to the public.

Neowin’s sources claim that Google will begin selling their Chrome Netbooks this summer. Not sure you wanna buy one after reading all the crappy reviews? Google will also offer a $10-$20 per month subscription option that includes free hardware refreshes!   Sounds like a sweet deal to me, especially when you consider how quickly technology evolves.

According to our source, Google plans to make the notebooks available for $10-$20 a month per user, and will provide hardware refreshes as they are released as part of the package, and will replace faulty hardware for the life of the subscription. On top of this, Google will make the devices available for a one time payment as a normal retailer would, but is likely to not distribute the devices directly. Instead, the company will distribute them in a fashion similar to the way Android is distributed.

No subscription terms were disclosed.  I’d like to see this subscription model catch on so I can have free iPhone, iPad, iMac upgrades!
