Google Launches Person Finder Service In Japan

Japan’s devastating earthquake and tsunami left hundreds dead and hundreds missing.  Power and electricity are unavailable to many areas of the country, making it difficult for people to locate family and friends.  Google just launched a new version of their  “Person Finder” web page to help reconnect those effected by the earthquake.

The site functions much like a directory or message board.  People are able to post that they are looking for someone.  They can also post that they are alive and safe.  The service can be added to any website as a Google Gadget.

Google used a similar service during the Haiti earthquakes. It help loved ones connect when no other communication was possible.

You can visit Google’s Japan Person Finder site here.  You can view a translated image of the site below (click to enlarge).
